In order to begin to define politics in my own way, I began by finding
out how others defined it. Webster's Dictionary defines politics as, "the
total complex of relations of people living in society". Another
definition I found was, “competition between competing interest groups or
individuals for power and leadership”. Together, I believe these define
politics.
Politics are the complex relations of people living in a certain
society that have competition between interest groups or individuals, either
within the society (democrats and republicans) or with another society (war).

Sports
are a good comparison to politics, especially when it comes to the state of
Kentucky. Louisville and Lexington are considered to separate societies both
competing to have the best university. Each city thinks that they are better
than the latter, and many debates and fights have been had on the subject. Just
think of the riots that occurred after the defeat against Louisville during the
National Championships for basketball last year. Those riots didn’t happen
because we were just excited about winning, they happened because we won
against Louisville. The close relation and fierce competition of the two cities
is considered politics.
